Catherine : mildly metaphoric Lion's Feast

Lion's Feast

Posted on Feb 13th, 2007 by Catherine : mildly metaphoric Catherine
muscles twitch
nostrils flare
hunger grows
a growling smile
and the heart is to feast
with adrenaline’s promise

at night the forest stirs
in animal energy
only half resting
the animals are not daunted
by nighttime's pause

for in the distance
I can hear, in echoes
the sounds that hunger brings
am I a coward?
no, my boldness will return
like the blood in my veins

leaves vibrate
in growing fury
the beast, unleashed
can take his prey

and the creatures
who rest
in the forest
acknowledge
hunger’s boast
and will sleep now
for another day
